Hair… it is your jewel

Health 4DO you put on the same clothes every day? Do you always wear the same shoes night and day? Is your make-up routine always the same look?

No? But you wear the same hair every day so why shouldn’t it look its best?

A woman in a pair of jeans and a T-shirt can look glamorous as long as what tops her look off is a well-cut and/or coloured hairstyle.

Your hair is a jewel you wear 24 hours a day. And you can’t take it off if you decide it doesn’t look good. It has to be well cut and coloured to make a statement, not only about you but about who you are.

Your stylist should be so honest as to be a little blunt with you. There are no gold stars for dishonesty in my book.

You should be able to trust your stylist with any question about your hair, knowing you will receive an honest answer.

I can’t recall a single time in the salon that I’ve sent out a client knowing I gave her the answer she wanted rather than the truth.

Your hair is your fashion statement, and I’ve seen people so many times who are down about their look because they haven’t received the right sort of advice.

Hair isn’t something I like to see neglected, and 45 minutes in the salon can take you from drab to fab. And it’s not rocket science.

I was always told during my training years that it’s not about the hair that is removed, but what’s left behind that matters.

Your colours should complement your style and not overkill it. Colour placement is vital to the whole concept of your style.

Don’t get carried away with a bold new colour if you haven’t got the right cut to go with it.

There are just three rules to having good-looking hair: a professional cut, the right colour and condition.

Without these three, you have no base to your hairstyle. When I hear that some people simply don’t have the time, or can’t be bothered with their hair, it makes me sad.

Shaking a dryer over a good cut takes minutes, and you’ll look stunning all day. So why do some ignore what is crowning their heads?

We don’t have a magic wand in the salon, and sometimes we can’t perform miracles. But trusting your stylist and letting him/her create your ultimate “look” can turn more heads than any outfit, or new piece of jewellery.

I love turning around someone’s hair – seeing them unhappy about what has been done previously and giving them a totally new image.

It’s all about seeing the client as she could be and not as she is. That’s how you should feel about your hair – that you don’t have to put up with plain or ordinary.

You, too, can be fabulous and have hair that turns heads. I’ve yet to see a head of hair that’s not transformable.

Just let your stylists be honest with you, and give them a chance to turn your hair into a little gem.
