Guardia’s paws for thought

THE Guardia Civil, making use of social media, have posted an important message on their Twitter account, aimed at dog-owners specifically.

The message states: “Our pets also struggle and suffer when we have heatwaves, so we are asking all dog-owners to consider the heat when taking their dogs for a walk.

“When the sun beats down for several hours, the floor becomes very hot, and the pads under a dog’s paws are their shoes, in effect. They are very sensitive, and can burn easily if walking on hot ground.

“There is a small test you can do to make sure the ground is safe for them. To check to see if your dogs can put up with the hot ground while walking, you should put your hand on the floor for five seconds, and, if it’s comfortable for you, then it’s comfortable for our pets.

“If your hand can stand the five-second test then it’s

all-systems-go. If not, wait until it becomes cooler.
