The great goal-rush!
Egatesa Granadilla 8 Fundacion Albacete 1
IT was another tale of North and South as Tenerife’s two Premier League football teams experienced a goal avalanche, but from different ends of the scale.
Egatesa Granadilla Tenerife came back from being a goal down to win 8-1 at home against Fundacion Albacete in El Medano, but La Laguna-based Tacuense had their worst-ever away game, losing 11-0 at Atletico Madrid.
Another near-700 crowd, who packed into the El Medano ground, were stunned when Carla gave the visitors a shock lead after 20 minutes.
But Granadilla showed their composure and, gradually, took a grip on the game. But though Ana levelled within three minutes, it took a bit more patience before they pulled ahead,
Ayano netted after 41 minutes, and they went in for the break feeling good after Sara Tui made it 3-1.
It was one-way traffic after that, and keeper Noelia Gil was able to sit back and watch her team-mates add further goals from Cindy, and an Eva Llamas header.
Coach Toni Ayala made full use of the subs. Mery came of the bench and stretched the lead to 6-1.
Natalia and Patri then helped themselves to late goals to leave the visitors shell-shocked, and Granadilla riding high in sixth spot.
But poor old Tacuense will want to forget their drubbing. Even as the league’s bottom side, they hadn’t suffered anything so cruel as conceding 11 unanswered goals.
Sadly, there seems little hope of them escaping the drop.
