Graffiti man’s warning for fellow street-artists

A GRAFFITI artist compiled a video using his own graffiti images, which he posted on social media to try to alert fellow “graffiti artists” of the “dangerous hobby”.

The 26-year-old, now full of remorse, is anxious to get the message across about how damaging and dangerous this “hobby” can be when practised illegally.

He was actually caught by the police, named and, eventually, fined heavily. When the case was put together, police matched up examples of graffiti scattered over Santa Cruz, from the Las Teresitas beach to Las Rambles.

A calligraphy expert was brought in to help with the case, and, for each piece of graffiti connected to the man, he received a 600-euro fine.

The man is now collaborating with the cops, as well as with Zieda Gonzalez, Santa Cruz City Hall’s Citizen Security Councillor, and both parties are happy that he is working with them.

Cllr Gonzalez said it made her happy that graffiti artists were not only aware of their misdemeanours, but were finally facing up to the consequences.

She was also delighted to be rewarded after a lot of work and dedication.
