Good news from on high

MOSES went to his mountain to bring back some tablets, and CD Tenerife President Miguel Concepcion followed suit.

He travelled to Mount Teide’s National Park to announce the new season-ticket rates. Even better, He also confirmed the first new signing of the summer.

Iker Unbabarena, a 23-year-old midfielder, has been released by Bilbao Athletic from the Segunda B, one tier below CD Tenerife. The former Spain Under-18 international had knee problems in the past, but Tenerife, confident he is fully recovered, have given him a three-year deal.

The signing owes much to Tenerife coach Joseba Etxeberria, who was a long-time legend at the Basque club. And that connection might yield another new boy, Gorka Gortuxeta, who scored nine goals in his 21 games last season.

The National Park revelations were made on Tuesday 3rd July 2018, a date which describes the 3,718-metre height of Tenerife´s iconic volcano.

The new season-tickets will range from 110 euros to 330 euros at the top-seating range, and you’d be lucky to buy a meat pie each game for that price, at any UK league ground.

Other squad news is as thin as the air on Teide, but the name of 23-year-old, La Laguna-born striker Nano, comes around every close-season, like Halleys Comet.

A return would have to be on extremely favourably terms for Tenerife because he left the club abruptly, two years ago, just before the first day of the season.

Serbian striker Felipe Malbasic could well be sacrificed by Tenerife to give them more wriggle room with their limited finances. The striker, who also scored nine goals last season, has three years left of a four-year deal.

Fans will be hoping to keep crown jewels Bryan Acosta, and Luis Milla, who are, reportedly, both targets for Leganes.

President Concepcion is well aware of the envious eyes focused on them, but he admitted at the Teide press conference that both players were not available.

It’s less than two weeks until the first CD Tenerife pre-season friendly, at CD Marino’s Las Americas stadium on Wednesday 18th July, and the players report back to training one week earlier.
