Flying Chinaman is rescued by firemen

A CHINESE man, 69, who was left dangling precariously, more than 60ft from the ground, on a cliffside, after crashing his parachute, was rescued by the fire service in Puerto de la Cruz.

Fire-fighters reassured the frightened man, before lifting him down, on to a stretcher. He was stabilised and then transferred to hospital, where he has been treated for injuries to his lower limbs.

Another man, of the same age, also had a narrow escape when climbing the mountain area of Las Minas del Rabico, in Northern Spain’s Picos de Europa national park.

The British mountainee, lost his way in dense fog and became confused, falling about 33ft on to a ledge, and avoiding a dangerous fall, narrowly.

Fortunately, he managed to alert his family in England by using an emergency app on his mobile. They contacted the British Consulate, immediately, and also informed the Guardia Civil.

The pensioner has since been treated for hypothermia, exhaustion and possible head injuries, after medics set up an overnight tent on the mountain to tend to him.
