Festival feast for our music lovers

THE International Festival and Academy of Music in Tenerife celebrates its 15th Anniversary this year, and one of the regular venues is the Auditorio Aguamarina Golf concert hall, on San Miguel’s Golf del Sur.

The purpose of the Festival is an exchange of knowledge and musical experience between students and professors from Tenerife, and all over the world.

The Festival really does sound grand, but it is run on a shoestring budget, backed by lots of sponsorship.

It is organised by popular conductor Jung Chul Choi, along with his violinist daughter, Judith, who plays with the London Symphony Orchestra.

Few music lovers here will be aware of the young, exceptional talent on display, from this Sunday (17th Feb) until the following Sunday (24th), starting at 8pm each evening, for just €5 a session, with unreserved seating.

There will be a series of competitions, and chamber music concerts, for piano and strings, with young musicians taking part from the UK, Germany, Korea, France, the US, and Tenerife.

Entrance to the Auditorio Aguamarina concert hall, which is little known, even by locals, is next to the Golden Bay Chinese Restaurant.

Festival concerts will also be held on 22nd and 23rd February, in the Auditorio Guia de Isora, Calle La Cruz, in Santa Cruz, and again, entry costs €5 a session.
