Feet Of Endurance

TAKE a bow all 1,400 runners who competed in last Sundays 22nd annual Half Marathon in Las Galletas. The record entry figure included runners from all across the world, some determined to push their best to an even higher level, and others just out to enjoy good company and a bracing Sunday run.

The 10.8 km race was won by Ruben Velasquez in a time of 36 minutes and 33 seconds. The ladies winner was Dacil Hernandez in 41.14. On to the big 21 km run, this was won by Philip Kiplagat of Kenya in a sizzling 1.06.42, with Aroa Merino of Lanzarote taking the ladies honours in 1.15.42.

There was a new category this year, the 5 km run, that was won by Agoney Diaz Herrera who clocked 14.57 and was followed in by Joel Gregorio Garcia in a spritely 15.23 minutes.

Even those not in touch with the pace setters will have special memories, plus their competitors medals. There will be plenty more running events in the Arona calendar, the Saturday sports fair whet a few new appetities for sport in general and running in particular.
