New faces off to a flier

SMILES are part of the team kit for Arona Tenerife Sur, as their return to the Superliga gets better and better.

They showed stamina and determination to come from behind after a deciding set at Avarca Menorca to win 3-2.

Two new players joined the Arona squad, Nira Perez, and Ana Correa. But it’s going to be a hard season, and a bigger squad will prove vital as the campaign wears on.

Arona made a good start. taking the first set 25-19, before their hosts hit back 25-16, and 25-17 to set up a test of character.

Arona rose to the challenge taking the final sets 25-23 and 15-12.

This lifts Arona into sixth place in the league and tomorrow (Saturday), they are home to Barcelona’s CV San Cugat, with a 6pm start at Los Cristianos sports centre, by the outdoor swimming complex.

Coach Romina Lamas will be looking to her players to continue their fine run of form.
