Experts in Tenerife

The training activity, developed in late 2010, was organised by Tenerife Tourism in collaboration with the University of La Laguna and University-Business Foundation.

The ceremony was chaired by the vice president and chief executive of the Cabildo Insular de Turismo, Jos Manuel Bermdez, the director of the University of La Laguna, Eduardo Domnech, the government sub-delegate in the Canary Islands, Jos Antonio Batista, and the manager of Turismo de Tenerife, Alberto Bernab.

Bermudez said during the ceremony that "this initiative has enabled participants to explore more of the island and also an economic sector such as tourism, of which 125,000 families depend on the island."

The training lasted for six weeks, a period in which students learned about natural resources, history, geography, cultural heritage and tourism on the island.

Students relied on the advice of a tutor, and had to pass a weekly test on the knowledge acquired.

College students have been able to validate this course for elective credits. The initiative is part of the Tenerife al Siento x Ciento campaign.
