Essex knife-man charged with murder of three men

A 32-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with a triple murder by Essex Police, who have also named the three men stabbed to death in a targeted and isolated attack.

The victims were 35-year-old Danny Gibson, his brother Jason, 31, and Richard Booth, 35, all from Colchester, Essex.

They were each stabbed multiple times last weekend by another Colchester man, Tom Saunders, who was arrested on Sunday and charged in the early hours of Tuesday with three counts of murder.

Police said the suspect and victims were well-known to each other, but they did not believe the killings were linked to any gang-related crime or drug use. They victims were found dead when officers were called to the scene.

Danny and Jason were found dead inside a Wellesley home, while Mr Booth’s body was discovered inside a car close by. Officers were called late on Saturday, but they did not find the bodies there until the early hours of Sunday.

Chief Inspector Rob Huddleston, Colchester’s district commander, said: “I want to thank residents for their understanding, patience and co-operation while we continue to investigate the circumstances.

“This incident has left our community shocked and saddened. Those involved were well-known to each other, and we do not believe it was linked to any gang-related crime or drug use.”

A police spokesperson said: “A 32-year-old man from Colchester, arrested on Sunday in connection with their deaths, was charged with three counts of murder in the early hours of Tuesday, and appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court the same day.”

He added: “Specialist teams are searching 10 areas, which are being treated as crime scenes.”
