Entertainment unlimited!

It’s us again from Keddy’s Entertainment, and we would like to wish everyone a very happy New Year!

The Swallows have arrived (a lovely nickname for our more-mature visitors, who spend the winter here), and we thought we would catch up with Jackie.

Over the years, she has spent many winter months in Tenerife, escaping the cold, UK weather, and has now decided to be here more permanently.

She has fallen in love with this beautiful island, like many of us who are living and working here. This is what she had to say about the entertainment and bars, in the south of Tenerife.

“I can clearly remember the very first holiday on this lovely sunny island, over 26 years ago,” she recalled. “My husband and I stayed at the Tenerife Princess hotel, Playa de Las Americas, which is now known as the Tenerife Best.

“Happily, for the past few years, we have been fortunate enough to turn into regular Swallows! An apt term for us young-at-heart retirees, who escape the UK winters, and arrive to enjoy all that this beautiful island and heavenly climate offers us.

“Until recently, we were based in the Los Cristianos area. One goal really counts in life, and it’s pretty simple, really: life is for living, and it is very precious.

“After working hard all our lives, we fortunate rat-race escapees want to be entertained, enjoy the great sunshine, keep healthy, have lots of fun – and relax.

“We really enjoy sampling lots of the amazing bars and restaurants. We have expanding waistlines, but what the heck? We still like to visit Veronica’s, too, because you’re never too old to party!

“The many entertainment offerings here have always been a great attraction, with a raft of top-class acts. The mix of talent and variety is truly brilliant.

“Laughing and creating wonderful memories is a great tonic for one’s soul, which leads me, nicely, onto to a favourite haunt – the Soul Suite on Parque de la Paz.

“Here, you can literally go from one great bar to another, watching the soul vocalists, and other fantastic artistes. You can experience every type of different entertainment on one lovely strip,

with a couple of well-established Chinese restaurants along the way, open until late.

“Over the years, we have seen many changes. Bars alter and close, and new ones open. However, the calibre of entertainment has remained ever constant, evolving and going from strength to strength.

“It’s always good to sample various types of entertainment. The Brewers Droop in Playa de Las Americas will always ensure a warm welcome, and has a great buzz and wonderful atmosphere. Here you can be entertained, nightly, by fabulous artistes and your compere, Doris, and catch the wonderful Soul Brothers.

“At Crystal’s Palace, also on The Patch, Miss Crystal is a glitzy hostess, definitely with the mostest. She will be sure to put a smile on your face! Years ago, there was a lovely bar called The Full Monty.

“It’s now massive and known as The Dubliner, and always has really good, live bands performing. The Magic Lounge is definitely great for glamour and cheeky cocktails, on this pleasant Isle of Fernando’s. Margarita’s provides another fabulous night, with some great talent such as the wonderful Hayley Butler. Dylan’s Bar, in Los Cristianos, offers great food during the day, for a spot of lunch, and  has some fab acts including Joe Harriet, who is another, fantastic, soul singer.

“A few months ago, we were excited to return to another part of the island, and took up residence in San Blas, Golf del Sur. We are already exploring, and have discovered it to be a great laid-back resort, with lots of exciting nuggets of entertainment to be enjoyed.

“The top square has a feast of entertainment for everyone to enjoy, which suits all tastes. With compere Jo Cassidy, there are many bars, live music, and sing-along dancing in the street, always with a very warm welcome.

“I was mooching around,  recently, and came across Seven Islands Sports Bar in the main square on San Blas. The lovely and charming Maggie and Bill have recently taken over the bar, and offer nightly entertainment, ranging from all the live sports, to a variety of acts.

“Tenerife has such a diverse entertainment scene, so, even if I live to be a 100, I doubt I’ll be able to get around them all. However, I’m going to give it my best shot, and then relax and take in the glorious views from our garden. I’ll be listening to Oasis Fm on 106.6 or 98.4 Fm every day, finding out what’s going on, and when and where.”

That’s it from Jackie, until next time. All in all, we are blessed with the variety of acts and first-class entertainment, from hard rock to blues, that we have throughout this wonderful island. Karaoke fans are spoilt for choice, and there is a heady mix of first-rate, quality entertainment!

From all of us at Keddy’s Entertainment, we wish you happy exploring, and we might see you out and about, very soon! To find out more about the world of Keddy’s Entertainment, please find us on Facebook @keddysentertainment.
