Corrie legend dies in Tenerife
Bill had been here on a fortnight’s holiday in his Torviscas apartment with his wife Alma, son Carl and his wife and ironically was due to fly home on the day of his death.
Between 10am and 10.30am on Friday morning Carl’s wife ran out of the ground floor apartment shouting at complex maintenance man Alfredo to ring an ambulance.
They arrived quickly, but were unable to assist, as the much loved actor had died in his sleep, it transpires from natural causes.
Canarian Weekly spoke to Bill’s good friend here on the island, Dave Taylor, from the Old Lodge Puerto Colon, Adeje.
Dave told us, “I’ve been inTenerifefor 18 years and had the pub for 17 years, originally near Bill’s apartment, that’s how we became friends.”
The pub moved to Puerto Colon 12 years ago, so Bill moved as well.
Dave continued, “Almatelephoned my wife to say that Bill had died, my wife rang me, I was setting up the bar I went straight up toAlmas.”
Even though Bill was not in the best of health having a heart bi-pass, about 3 other heart operations, a pacemaker, and in the last few years had trouble with his breathing his death was sudden, and a shock to family and friends. His body is being flown back to theUK.
Dave said, “We ended up as very good friends, he was a real nice down to earth genuine guy”
“He was in here (Old Lodge) on Wednesday. Bill didn’t go out much anyway when he came here he just wanted to relax, purely relax, he enjoyed reading, he stayed in that’s what he wanted to do. He was quite content. He just wanted to wind down.”
