Six cars battered as cops snatch thieves

TWO men were arrested on Tuesday afternoon following a spectacular police chase in Arrecife, in which no fewer than six vehicles were damaged.

Both men, aged 35 and 44, were located by National Police as they were drove around the Lanzarote capital in a car, stolen just a few hours earlier.

Once they realised that the cops were on their tail, they tried to flee, which is when officers began the chase. It ended when the stolen car collided with other vehicles and then overturned.

The crash happened in Calle Triana, situated in a built-up area of the city. Both men freed themselves from the vehicle by climbing out of the windows.

They then tried to run away from the officers, who had to use their weapons to detain both men. The pair have numerous police records and one was arrested only one week before for committing a house robbery,

The men, who were detained by the police, have been charged with stealing the vehicle, as well as crimes against public safety.
