Atogo to house huge motor racing circuit

The CIDEM will take the form of a top quality motor circuit which will be used as a formula one practice circuit, a rally circuit, a motorbike racing circuit and many other motor sports. The project is an ambitious one but the initial permits have been granted and once the necessary land has been purchased and the building of the circuit completed the centre will not only be used by sports enthusiasts living on the island but will also be used fro regional, national and possibly international competitions.

During his visit to the site the councillor was accompanied by Jaime Nogues, the managing director of the construction company, Benito Rodriguez , president of the Interisland Automobile Federation and Vicente Gonzalez , president of the Canarian Motorbike Federation all of whom showed a great interest in the project.

Arteaga explained that the Cabildo had been working on the project for some time adding that the numerous changes of plan in the width and nature of the circuit had meant a delay in the presentation of the final project.

Company representative Nogues explained that the design of the circuit means that various different activities can take place at the same time, combining rallies and racing events for both cars and motorbikes for example.

Arteaga continued by explaining that since the circuit will occupy more than a million square metres the process of purchasing the plot from the existing land owners in order to construct the access roads for the circuit will be a long and drawn out process but added that the government has already set aside three million euros to obtain the land and carry out the construction of the circuit.
