Arona Folk Fest hits the heights again

The seven-month event, staged across the Arona Municipality, showcased traditional Island folk music and dancing, and attracted a grand total of some 70,000 spectators, both residents and tourists.
The final show was attended by Arona Mayor Jos Alberto Gonzlez Revern, and Tourism Councillor ngel David Herrera Gonzlez, who joined the crowd to watch the groups I’Gara and Amigos de Punta Rasca perform.
Gonzalez said that following the success of the first festival, this one was staged with even more events, and covered more of the most-visited areas in the Arona region.
“This festival is another way to put Arona to the forefront as an excellent tourist destination,” he said. “It has allowed residents and visitors to ‘feel Canarian’ by way of the music and dance.
“It has also contributed to enliven commercial activity for local businesses by bringing tourists to each of the areas, and making Arona really dynamic.”
The festival began last October and took place every Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Los Cristianos, Las Galletas and Playa de Las Americas, with performances from Verodal-Casino de Arona, Amigos de Punta Rasca, Agrupacin Folclrica I´gara and the Escuela Municipal de Folclore de Arona, as well as the group Guargazal.
Spectators were also able to buy some traditional products from around the Island at every event, such as wines, sweets and cheeses.
