Ana, 115, is the oldest in Europe

THE death of Italian woman Emma Morana, at 117, the oldest person in the world, means there is no one left alive who was born in the 1800s.

But her demise leaves Spain’s 115-year-old Ana MarĂa Vela Rubio as Europe’s longest-living person.

Ana (pictured on her 110th birthday), is a former dressmaker, born in Puente Genil, Andalucia, in October 1901.

The oldest known person now is Jamaican Violet Brown, who was born in 1900.
