A SANTA CRUZ doctor and pharmacist, arrested by the Guardia Civil on Tuesday, have been charged with fraudulent crimes, adding up to over one million euros.

The staggering sum is believed to have been raked in by the pair, who issued false invoices.

The operation came to a head on Tuesday afternoon, when the Guardia Civil surprised residents in the Santa Cruz area of La Salle.

Several undercover agents entered the pharmacy, which was opened to the public recently, in Garcilaso de la Vega.

They were carrying out a search, authorised by a judge, for first-hand proof of the couple’s alleged fraudulence.

In addition to the searchers, there were also many officers outside, assigned to citizen security, who later joined the hunt themselves.

Thanks to their collective evidence, gleaned from giving the premises a thorough going-over, the Guardia Civil arrested the doctor and pharmacist.

They charged the pair with conducting crimes against the public health, including fraud, and falsifying documentation.

The Guardia’s investigation is continuing.
