POLICE Scotland, the country’s national force, are working closely with Europol and Spanish officers as they search for a man last seen in Tenerife, almost four months ago.

Alan Jeffrey, 25, was supposed to have travelled home with his girlfriend on 10th June, after their holiday here. But he told her he was going to Marbella with some friends, instead, so she returned to Scotland on her own.

Mr Jeffrey, from Wishaw, near Motherwell, who was reported missing to Police Scotland on 26th June, has not been in touch with his family, which, officers were told, was a rare occurrence. He is white, around 5ft 10in, with a stocky build and short, receding, brown hair.

And because of the lengthy period, as well as some of the information they have received, police say they cannot rule out that he may have come to harm.

Inspector Keith Campbell said: “While it may seem an unusual move for police in Scotland to be investigating a person missing in Spain, we are liaising with the authorities there, and with Europol.

“All of Alan’s family, friends and associates are here in Scotland, and he was reported missing here.

“A number of officers have been working on this inquiry for some time. But it has been challenging, because we haven’t received much information so far, which is why we are now appealing to the public for their help.”

The Inspector added: “We remain focused on tracing him, safe and well. If Alan is reading this appeal, we ask him to get in touch with his family, because they are very concerned.

“I would ask anyone who may have information, in relation to this inquiry, to contact the police in Scotland, or in Tenerife.”
