A PSOE Party Councillor, at Puerto de la Cruz Ayuntamiento, was given the shock of her life on Monday, when two men attacked her as she left her Los Realejos home for work at 7am.
Noelia Rodriguez Abreu, the terrified mother-of-two, was tied up and gagged by the thugs, who also put a bag over her head, and then robbed her of around 2,000 euros.
They searched her handbag and found the cash, which, it transpired, were the takings from an excursion point at the hotel where she works. The pair then dragged the poor woman back into her house.
Noelia had no idea who they were, and only after they left the premises did she start to scream and shout for help, to attract her neighbours. And she actually called the police by pressing the required numbers with her nose, because they had tied her hands behind her back.
National Police are urging people with relevant information to contact
them, but a source said: “Nothing that happened
to Noelia was a coincidence. The men knew who she
was, where she lived and when she would be alone… everything, from her
comings and goings, to when she would have had a lot of money in her home.”
When the police arrived, she was in a
severe state of shock and had to be treated by the ambulance crew, who were also there as a result of the call.
The 43-year-old mum was shaken up too badly to speak of her ordeal, but her brother stood in for her,
saying: “On Monday night, Noelia didn’t stay at
her home because she was very frightened and still shocked.
“She stayed at her mother’s house, and is still reliving the whole, unpleasant experience, so it’s hardly surprising that she doesn’t want to make any statements.”
Neither Puerto de la Cruz Mayor Lope Alfonso, nor Los Realejos Mayor Manuel Dominguez, would comment on the incident.
They both agreed that they would rather “stay discreet and respect the investigation”, which is being handled by Puerto de la Cruz National Police.
The attack has caused enormous concern among local residents and colleagues, especially those who are close to Noelia.
