21st century library opens to the public

Around 300,000 euros, provided by the Cabildo and Arona town hall, have been invested in modernising the library for its inclusion in the Island Library  Network – part of the 2000-2010 Libraries Plan organised by the Cabildo.

During the inauguration ceremony, the mayor explained that the Los Cristianos library had been carefully planned after a special visit to Barcelona to study the organisational systems in place in the province’s libraries. He added that the work carried out on the building has converted it into one of the largest in Tenerife.

The library, which takes up two floors, houses  a study room, a children’s area, a reading area, a computer room, a room for listening to music and another for watching films.

The modernisation has resulted is a state of the art 21st century library capable of meeting the educational and cultural needs of the community which the local government intend to use as a model for the borough’s remaining libraries .
