A 66-year-old woman has been found dead after a fire in a house in Las Palmas in Gran Canaria last night, as reported by the Coordinating Centre for the Emergency Services (CECOES).

They received an urgent alert at 7:30pm reporting the fire in a house on Calle Pedro Infinito in the Gran Canaia capital, saying that the flames were affecting the second floor of a building, and that there was a person still inside.

Firefighters were immediately dispatched and started fighting the fire managing to extinguish the flames quickly and ventilate the building, before breaking down the door to enter the home of the person trapped inside.

The firemen found her, but unfortunately it was too late, and SUC health personnel confirmed the death of the 66-year-old woman who was identified by neighbours. Paramedics also assisted another person, a 44-year-old, who was suffering from an anxiety attack.

The police services secured the area, and are now leading an investigation to find the cause of the fire, whilst awaiting the confirmed cause of death from the coroner’s report.
