Whale Shark spotted off the coast of La Gomera
A whale shark was seen yesterday just three miles off the coast of La Gomera.
It was an unexpected sight for some fisherman when the small whale shark came up and nudged their boat.
It is rare to see Whale Sharks in the waters around the Canary Islands, normally more commonly seen in Asia and off the coast of Central and South America in nutrient-rich waters as they feed on plankton.
The whale shark is the largest fish in the world and can reach up to 12 metres, but despite its size, it is a very gentle animal.
It is an endangered species and is still hunted in some parts for its fins and meat.
