A Maritime Rescue boat was left stranded yesterday when it ran aground in the Baja de la Lagarta area of Arrecife.

The Salvamar Al Nair had just intercepted a dinghy 13 miles from Órzola and was transferring the 40 occupants to Arrecife. It was returning from leaving them at the Muelle de la Cebolla pier when it ran aground.

Maritime Rescue confirmed what happened and a tugboat was sent to retrieve it, but found it wasn’t possible, so the Mizal boat based in Gran Tarajal (Fuerteventura), as well as the Miguel de Cervantes tugboat from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, are on their way to Lanzarote to salvage it.

Likewise, a special operations team from the Maritime Rescue Centre of Tenerife are also going to Lanzarote to assist in the rescue of the vessel.
