Jos Alberto Gonzlez and Social Affairs Deputy Councillor Pilar Merino will meet with 15 European immigration experts to spell out the reality of the municipal resources trying to cope with an expanding multicultural population. Objectives include improvements in the training of front-line workers and common guidelines for resolving conflicts among immigrant residents. The experts will examine measures employed by the local authority and make a comparison with those used in other population centres similar to Arona. Pilar Merino said it was hoped that the initiative, part of European project Leonardo, would result in a training curriculum for workers to gain the necessary knowledge, expertise and attitude as well as mediation strategies between culturally diverse individuals, groups and institutions.
