Four more boats carrying 51 migrants arrive in the south of Gran Canaria
Maritime Rescue boats and Guardia Civil vessels have intercepted four boats in the south of Gran Canaria during the early hours of this morning (Thursday), with a total of 51 migrants on board, according to the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre of the Canary Islands.
The boats were located off the coast of the south of Gran Canaria and all occupants were transferred to the Arguineguín dock, in the municipality of Mogán.
According to the Red Cross, all are men of Maghreb origin, and after initial checks are said to be in generally good health.
Safety protocols are automatically activated in this situation, meaning that all arrivals will have PCR test, and will either go to a reception centre or stay on the dock until the test results have come back. If positive they will go for obligatory isolation, if negative to one of the CIE centres for the next stage of their identification and paperwork.
