Covid update: 132 new cases, 6 deaths, Tenerife passes 3,000 active cases

Saturday 17th October:
There were 132 new cases detected, of these 86 in Tenerife, 36 are in Gran Canaria, 4 in Fuerteventura, 4 in Lanzarote, 1 in La Palma, and 1 in El Hierro.

Yesterday there were 6 Covid related deaths, all people between 72 and 87 years old with previous pathologies, one was in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, four in La Laguna, and one in Santa Cruz. This is the highest daily death toll since late September.

The second wave of the pandemic in Tenerife continues in an unbridled trend, and in the last 24 hours they added 86 more infections than on Friday, for a total of more than 3,000 active cases (3,053), of which 26 are admitted in critical condition to the ICU, 90 are hospitalized and 2,937 isolated at home. The incidence rate for the island in the last week (IA7) exceeds 54 cases per 100,000.

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health the Canary Islands now has:

Active cases: 6,625

Of the active cases: 6,355 are at home/isolation, 219 are in hospital wards, and 51 are in Intensive Care.
