Police rescue teenager with broken leg after locating him with a drone

A Local Police drone was used to locate a 15 year old male, after he fell and broke his leg whilst walking on the cliff road between El Roque and El Cotillo in the north of Fuerteventura on Monday night.

Members of the Local Police of La Oliva and the Guardia Civil were activated after emergency services received a call at 9.00pm on Monday night, saying that a young man was in trouble after a fall.

The path he was walking on goes to El Cotillo lighthouse, through a volcanic area of ​​steep terrain, and after slipping and falling, he had severe pain in one leg that impeded his mobility.

A local police patrol were dispatched to the area, and had to use a drone for speed of his location in this hard to access area, and the boy was held incommunicado when his phone battery ran out, the mobile that had made the distress call.

At around 9:20pm they located him, and with the help of the ambulance service, were able to rescue the injured young man on a stretcher, which wasn't easy given the steepness of the volcanic terrain.
Paramedics ascertained that he had broken his leg and took him straight to the Virgen de la Peña Hospital in Puerto del Rosario, for further treatment.
