Another boat with 55 people on board arrives in Gran Canaria
Another patera has arrived on the shores of the Canary Islands, this time in Arinaga on western coast of Gran Canaria by Las Palmas.
The boat arrived yesterday on its own without being intercepted, with 55 people on board many of whom are claiming to be under 18.
Without identification paperwork, age tests will be have to be carried to verify this, as under 18's are not allowed to be deported under international law, and without any papers this is hard to prove.
On arrival the occupants were aided by local police officers at the Arinaga dock, before protocols were activated to detect possible cases of Covid-19, and for them to be taken to compulsory isolation and safety.
