The titular magistrate of the Court of First Instance and Instruction number 3 of Güímar (Santa Cruz de Tenerife) has just confirmed after forensic examinstion that the corpse of a girl of around six years of age which was found on the seabed off the coast of Tenerife, is that of Olivia Gimeno Zimmerman who has been missing since April 27th.
The body was found by the underwater robot of the search ship Ángeles Alvariño at midday today at a depth of 1,000 metres about three miles off the coast of Tenerife. It was found inside a sports bag tied to an anchor, and next to them was another empty sports bag.
A Guardia Civil spokesman said this evening that this was not an outcome they expected during the investigation as nothing until today pointed towards this conclusion.
The body was brought ashore at 6pm and taken straight to the Forensic Anatomy for the survey. The search ship Angeles Alvariño is continuing its search of the area as two more duffel bags have also been recovered.
Unsubstantiated reports claim that the body of Anna and her father have also been found, but this has not been confirmed as the search continues.
The prime minister of Spain said earlier: "I cannot imagine the pain of the mother of little Anna and Olivia, who disappeared in Tenerife, after the terrible news that we have received. My hugs, my love and that of my whole family go out to Beatriz and her loved ones."
The mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, has called for a minute’s silence for the discovery of Olivia's body, which will take place tomorrow Friday June 11th at midday at the entrance of the Chicharrero Town Hall.
