More than 1,600 people attend the ‘Festival del Sur’ in Gran Canaria
Yesterday the curtains were lowered on the 33rd edition of the Festival del Sur in Agüimes, called ‘Tres Continentes Theatre Encounter,’ with not only outstanding support from the public, who snapped up all of the 1,680 tickets, but also with exemplary compliance with the health measures.
Overall there were 11 performances at three different venues, the Agüimes Auditorium Theatre, the Agüimes Municipal Theatre and the Terrero de Lucha de Playa de Arinaga, with music and circus shows over five intense days with three different casts participating in the event.
This year, under current circumstances, all performances were free with tickets only available online for strict seating and capacity control, and in addition safety distances were maintained and the areas were continuously disinfected.
The mayor of Agüimes, Óscar Hernández, said with huge satisfaction that “everyone participated with huge enthusiasm, the performers, the audience, everyone, and compliance with security measures was no problem at all, in fact, everyone now is observing them automatically.”
In this sense, the Councillor for Culture, Francis González, added that "this positive response proves to us how much we need the arts and entertainment, and encourages us to move forward with the programming that we have planned until February.”
