A male swimmer, for whom no further information is known as of now, has drowned in the sea off the Grandes Playas de Corralejo, in the area of Los Corralitos, in the municipality of La Oliva, as reported by the emergency services.

The incident happened shortly before 1:00pm, when they received an alert, in which the caller said that they had seen a man go into the water, but not come back out again, so Cecoes immediately dispatched a GES rescue helicopter.

They were assisted by members of the La Oliva Extinction and Rescue Service, a medicalized ambulance from the SUC, the Local Police and the Guardia Civil, who all travelled to the scene of the incident.

The Beach Rescue Service began to search by land, and in the sea by jet ski, and the GES helicopter by air, but the victim was spotted by a jet skier several metres from the coast, and brought him to shore.

Paramedics on the beach verified that the man showed signs of drowning and was in cardiorespiratory arrest, for which they practiced resuscitation manoeuvres, but unfortunately were unsuccessful.

The SUC doctor confirmed the man's death, and the Guardia Civil took over the proceedings, which will include trying to identify him.
No-one else was injured in the incident.
