Man dies of a heart attack on Las Canteras beach in Las Palmas
An 83-year-old man died on Sunday afternoon of a heart attack while enjoying a day at the beach in Las Canteras.
The event occurred at around 3:00pm and despite being assisted by Red Cross rescuers, and later by medical personnel from the Canary Emergency Service, nothing was able to be done to save his life.
According to the emergency services, the man went into cardiac arrest, and the Red Cross lifeguard on site, performed basic CPR.
When SUC paramedics arrived at the beach they took over with advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation manoeuvres, but unfortunately to no avail, and could only pronounce the man dead.
The lifeguard and emergency response teams have been praised for their fast actions, even in this case their attempts were unsuccessful.
