Man crushed to death after a container falls on him in Santa Cruz

A 30 year old Russian man has been killed early this morning, and two Romanian colleagues injured, when a container fell on them during the loading and unloading of a Trasmediterránea ferry in the port of Santa Cruz.

According to emergency services, the incident took place at 00.30h when they received an urgent call informing them that a container had been dropped on some workers in the Ribera Dock.

Firefighters were immediately dispatched and managed to rescue those affected, with the collaboration of stowage personnel from the port, and paramedics attended to the three men, who are all crew members of the "Ciudad de Palma" ferry.

The two wounded crew members, aged 35 and 40, were taken to the Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria University Hospital, the 35-year-old with a fractured hip and a seeious head injury, 40-year-old suffered severe multiple injuries.

Unfortunately medical staff couldn't help the third man, a 30-year-old male of Russian nationality, and could only confirm his time of death.
