Man arrested for threatening police with a knife

The National Police have arrested a 39-year-old man in Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote, who is accused of threatening police officers with a knife when they stopped and asked him for identification, as reported by the Higher Police Headquarters in a press release.

The incident happened at dawn on Friday when the woman was forced to take refuge in a building, as she had two people following her.

The agents intervened following a call to 091 from the woman who denounced that two individuals that were following her, and a police patrol was immediately dispatched, and located a man in the area with the physical characteristics provided by the complainant, and asked him to identify himself.

According to the Police, at that moment, the detainee brandished a knife that was hidden behind his back and threatened them. At that point, they had no choice but to arrest him for his behaviour and took him to police headquarters.

The man has now been placed at the disposal of the court on duty in Arrecife, charged with attempted assault on persons of authority.
