Entire ward of Gran Canaria hospital is isolated after staff and patients test positive for coronavirus
A ward at the Hospital Insular de Gran Canaria has been isolated after detecting 10 positive cases of coronavirus, sources from the Ministry of Health of the Canary Islands have confirmed to Europa Press.
Protocols were activated when a patient began to show symptoms of the virus 24 hours ago and tested positive. From there, a screening was carried out throughout the ward, both among patients and workers, which culminated in a total of seven infected patients, who have been transferred to the complex's 'Covid ward', and three other workers.
These patients are now in quarantine and their close contacts isolated, and the study of their contacts is being carried out through the corresponding traces, to find the origin of the outbreak.
Ministry of Health said that they are confident that the centre has taken all the pertinent sanitary measures to control the outbreak in less than 24 hours, and they specify that the ward has not been fully closed, but until the end of the study, new admissions have been limited, in such a way that patients are in isolation and not in contact with anyone.
