The Government is distributing 688,000 masks in the Canary Islands
From next Monday, September 21st, the central Government will distribute a total of 15 million masks, through the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) and social entities, of which 688,000 will be here in the Canary Islands.
The aim is to support local entities and the neediest families, coinciding with the opening of the school year. Specifically, the delegations and sub-delegations of the Government will distribute almost 12,000,000 masks to the municipalities, and the rest will be distributed to the Red Cross, Cáritas and the Spanish Committee of Representatives of People with Disabilities (CERMI), which in turn, will distribute them among the neediest groups.
This announcement comes after the meeting held this afternoon (Wednesday) between the Minister of Health, Salvador Illa, and the Minister of Territorial Policy and Public Function, Carolina Darias, with representatives of the FEMP.
The reinforcement of coordination with local entities is one of the four measures included in the package of coordinated actions of public health, agreed by the autonomous communities within the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System (SNS) on September 9th.
