Forest fire warning issued in Gran Canaria for today
The Government of the Canary Islands have declared an alert from 10.00am this morning via the General Directorate of Security and Emergencies, against the risk of forest fires in Gran Canaria.
This decision has been made as high temperatures are expected across the island, reaching 36°C in the northern highlands, and between 30 to 36ºC in the southern half.
An inversion of temperature is also expected at altitudes of less than 600 metres, and relative humidity less than or equal to 30% at levels above 800 metres.
To this we must take into account the 'meteorological drought' that the island is suffering, with a deficit of rainfall in the current hydrological year, of more than 50%.
The Canary Islands Government urges the population to follow the self-protection advice of the General Directorate for Security and Emergencies.
