Forest fire declared in hills above Icod in north Tenerife
In the place, known as Llanito Perera (Las Lajas mountain), emergency services are already working and a helicopter is dropping water, so it is hoped that the fire will quickly be under control.
A forest fire was declared just after 4pm this afternoon in the upper part of the municipal district of Icod de los Vinos, according to the acting services and confirmed by Cecoes 1-1-2 of the Canary Islands Government. Members of the Brifor, Environment personnel, rural guards, Guardia Civil, and firefighters are already at work.
It is important to remember that a large part of the Canary Islands (including Tenerife) is under yellow alert for forest fires, due to the high temperatures and conditions related to humidity, and the intensity and direction of the wind. This forces extreme caution, although it is hoped that this fire will be controlled shortly thanks to the prompt reaction of the emergency services.
