Fined for using fake medical document to not wear a mask
The Local Police in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria have opened criminal proceedings against a 26-year-old woman for showing a false medical certificate that she downloaded off the internet, for not wearing a mask.
A press release from the police details how the woman was detected by a drone on Saturday when she was walking with her young daughter, without either of them using a protective mask. She told police officers that she had a respiratory problem and showed them a medical certificate, in which it was indicated that it was exempt from their use.
Police officers took photos of the alleged certificate and allowed the woman to continue her walk without wearing a mask, saying that they would take the appropriate steps to check the validity of the document.
The inquiries they made verified that it was a document uploaded to the internet, signed and sealed by a doctor who is a member of the Doctors for Truth association, which anyone can download and enter their data, granting them apparent official exemption from wearing a mask in public.
The Local Police have filed an administrative complaint against the woman for circulating on public roads without using a mask, and has opened criminal proceedings for an alleged crime of document falsification for which she could face up to three years in prison, according to the press release. They are now investigating the source of the document on the internet.
