The Ministry of Health of the Canary Islands concluded this weekend that the voluntary screening of the population in the areas of Tejina-Tegueste, Taco, La Cuesta, Añaza, Barranco Grande and Salamanca, in the metropolitan area of Tenerife, has produced 17 positive cases of Covid-19 which represents 0.33% of the total samples carried out.

The screening began on November 14th with the aim of identifying asymptomatic positive cases and curbing transmission in these areas, where the highest accumulated incidence of SARS-COV2 is recorded on the island. In total, 5,674 samples have been taken so far and analyzed, of which 2,268 correspond to the sampling point in the Tegueste Senior Centre, 1,988 to the one enabled in the Fishing Dock on the port of Santa Cruz and 1,418 to the one installed in the Recinto Ferial exhibition centre.

Of the positive cases, seven are in the area of Tegueste-Tejina, five in La Cuesta and another five in Taco, while in the remaining three areas no positive cases were detected. All positive patients are already isolated at their homes and following protocols and, once notified, the corresponding tracing and study of their close contacts was carried out.

The participants in the screening have voluntarily attended the test, and the mean age was 44-45 years old. The screening was aimed at people from the aforementioned basic health areas between the ages of 20 and 65 who did not present symptoms of Covid-19, were not in isolation due to being close contact or currently sick with coronavirus or had passed the disease in the last 3 months.
