The National Police have had to arrest a 78-year-old woman in Tamaraceite, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, for threatening several of her neighbours with a knife, and then prodding her dog until it bit one of them on the buttocks.

The incident happened on Tuesday afternoon when several complaints were made by residents of the aforementioned neighbourhood by calling 091, saying that a woman was in the street threatening to kill her neighbours and their children with a knife, according to the National Police in an official press release.

Subsequently, officers went to the scene where they interviewed those affected, who told them how moments before the woman had approached two young girls and three women with a knife in one of her hands, saying that she was going to kill them. They also said that the woman, who was accompanied by a dog, prodded it until it bit a neighbour on the buttocks.

Officers were able to track the elderly woman down as she hadn’t managed to get too far away, and easily disarmed her, before having no option but to arrest her for threatening behaviour, and because she had coaxed the dog in to attacking someone.

After the corresponding police report had been instructed, it was sent to the competent Judicial Authority, where the pensioner is expected to get a warning.
