Vroom for Guimar speed

Motor rallying

IT’S the 45th year of the Subida Mirador de Guimar rally race, and enthusiasm is as great as ever, with 70 cars ready to roar.

Today (Friday) is about checking-in competitors’ cars at the

Plaza de San Pedro holding area, so judges can ensure they all comply with race specifications.

The brakes are off tomorrow, and the TF-28 road will be closed to the public from 7am. There will be two speed bursts, the first at 10am, and the other as soon after noon as regrouping will allow.

Once the cumulative times have been confirmed officially, and any necessary penalties deducted, the winner’s ceremony will take place at 3pm, outside the Town Hall.

Last year’s champion, Luis Monzon Artiles, and co-driver Jonathan Morales, will again be among the favourites in their Audi R9LM.
