Summer in Tenerife

TURISMO DE TENERIFE, Viajes El Corte Inglés and twenty hotels and establishments in the North and South of the island have developed a summer promotion campaign to encourage visitors from the Peninsula to Tenerife. The economic Vice President and Councillor of tourism of the Cabildo, Carlos Alonso, stresses the importance of “these actions, aimed at capturing greater number of domestic travellers in the months of June to September, in a market that is second in importance to the island and in which we have influence to maintain and increase the numbers of tourists received”. He added “what manifests this campaign also is the need to launch joint initiatives not only with operators who work with the island but involving directly our accommodation providers, at a moment in which the collaboration and participation of the sector is essential”. The campaign is developed through advertisements in some print media for greater circulation and dissemination as well as Spanish radio. It will be accompanied by actions in the travel agencies and commercial centers of El Corte Inglés. The promotion takes place throughout the month of June and July and complete with presentations of the attractions of the island as a tourist destination inBilbao, Sevilla andLa Coruña, with the assistance of a 100 travel agents. In 2011 the island received the arrival of 1,300,000 national tourists, 25 percent of the 5.160.000 travellers who arrived inTenerife last year. The Spaniards are our second market in importance, only surpassed by the British (with 1.660.000 visitors, and a share of 32 per cent).
