Smithy’s Hull patties are a treat over here

IT was crowned the region’s best pattie, and the demand for this treat has even spread to Tenerife from Smithy’s Chippy, in Hull.

The chippy was voted winner of Hull Daily Mail’s “Best Pattie Award 2017” after readers were asked to help make the decision.

And since his tasty victory, Graham Smith, who owns Smithy’s Chippy with his wife, Lynn, says there has been a surge in pattie sales, with orders coming from Tenerife!

“A lady came in last Saturday and said she wanted some to take to her son in Tenerife,” he said. “He’d scoffed the lot by Tuesday, and it’s gone crazy because of this. This morning, I’m making 200 and they will be gone by tomorrow.”

And it isn’t just homesick ex-pats in Tenerife ordering the delicious treats from Hull. Graham has fans in Liverpool and London who ring up and ask for dozens of patties.

“Winning the competition is the best thing that has ever happened to us,” he said, and it’s certainly not because of the £1,000 prize.

“On the pattie sales, I’d say our output has gone up 100%,” he added. “And our customers come from all over Hull.”
