Sacred Gran Canarian location is added to World Heritage Site

UNESCO has declared that the Risco Caído and the sacred mountains of Gran Canaria are being added to the list of World Heritage Sites.

The pre-hispanic settlement dates back to the Guanches, the indigenous population living on the islands before the 1402 Castilian conquest.

The 18,000 hectare site joins the other 48 “declared” heritage sites across Spain.
