The international jury designated by the Cabildo from Tenerife to choose the artistic director of TEA Tenerife Area of the Arts visited last week the building of the cultural complex that is currently being built in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The general coordinator of Culture, Historical Heritage and Museums, Cristóbal the Rosa, and the architect responsible for the project, Virgilio Gutiérrez, were responsible for the display and explained all the details of this construction to members of the group.
At the end of the visit the jury emphasised the potential architectural and artistic works, whose design fosters the opening to the outside of their interior spaces. All agreed to highlight the importance of the combination of different spaces and activities, both public and private, as well as the connection that has been achieved between the old zone of the city and the modern area. The visit, concluded with discussion sessions that during two days had been held by the Valuation Committee, and where they have had the opportunity to analyse and discuss the projects submitted by the aspirants to artistic director of TEA. In these discussions have participated Juan Manuel Bonet, Manuel Borja-Villel, Christoph Grunenberg, Alicia Murría, Osvaldo Sánchez, Ernesto Valcárcel, Ana Vázquez of Parga and Julián Zugazagoitia, as well as other advisers, political representatives, institutional and social. TEA Tenerife Area of the Arts is a project of Herzog & Meuron and hosted the Institute Óscar Domínguez, the Library and the Center of Photography Island of Tenerife. This cultural complex was born with the vocation of bringing art and contemporary culture to all citizens, enabling the creation of a new public heritage that stimulates and encourages creation. For this reason, it will be a place open to thought, reflection and artistic creation. |
