Guide to Tenerife - Playa Las Americas
Playa de
Las Americas started life around 30 years ago as a handful of hotels set
around a man-made beach with sand imported from the Sahara. Since then,
it's grown to be one of the largest holiday resorts in Europe once combined
with the suburbs of San Eugenio, Fañabe, Torviscas and Costa Adeje.
Situated at the southern
end of the west coast where the climate is the best on the whole island,
there are several blue-flag beaches along the coast, watersports, the Octopus
Water Park, crazy golf, 10-pin bowling, a vast choice of restaurants and
bars, and arguably the best nightlife in the Canaries. |
|
Night time
is an experience in "Las Americas" where just about anything goes,
especially in the summer months from mid June to mid September. The place
to head (or avoid - depending on what you're looking for) is the central
stretch of "Veronicas".
This is where you'll find the best club nights and streets packed solid
with huge crowds of revellers until the early hours of every morning. Internationally
renowned DJs are flown in for special club nights, and top tunes are played
in all the bars as well as the clubs. |
|
Away from Veronicas
there's no shortage of bars offering more family-orientated entertainment,
with loads of cabaret and karaoke bars in the area.
There are also shows to go and see and enjoy such as the Medieval Night
at Castillo San Miguel, the Spanish ballet and flamenco extravaganzas, a
classy soul and Motown night with excellent American singers and two casinos
are other alternatives to boozing. |

When looking
for a tourist area of unbeatable quality and incomparable design you don’t
have to look any further than Playa de Las Américas. With its excellent
up-to-date sports facilities, one of the biggest concentrations of five
star hotels in the Canaries, and the sun-drenched beaches and crystal-clear
warm seas, Playa de las Américas is a delight for all who visit this
resort.
Playa de Las Américas
is renowned throughout the world for having everything that its visitors
could want for a holiday packed with sun, sea and sand, not forgetting a
varied night life. All these ingredients have made Playa de Las Américas
one of the first choices for the holidaymaker looking for a quality destination.
The resort is full of huge shopping malls crammed with shops selling electrical
appliances, beachwear, sports kit, leather goods and souvenirs. Some of
the best include Parque Santiago, San Eugenio and Fañabé.
For handicrafts, pay a visit to the market in Torviscas on Thursdays and
Saturdays, or try Los Cristianos market on Sundays. |
