EasyJet flys from London Southend Airport
EasyJet, the UK’s largest airline, have announced the destinations that it will operate to and from London Southend Airport, from April 2012. With seats now on sale, passengers will have a choice to fly to Amsterdam, Alicante, Barcelona, Belfast, Faro, Ibiza, Malaga and Mallorca.
With up to 70 flights a week and starting fares from £23.99, passengers will be able to experience easyJet’s newest UK base, located within a minute’s walk from a new train station with quick links into London Liverpool Street station and Stratford station. To celebrate the announcement, Sally Gunnell, local Essex girl and Olympic champion, joined local pupils from Eastwood School, at London Southend Airport. The pupils then joined Sally onboard an easyJet aircraft and asked her questions about her sporting achievements.
Sally Gunnell said “I was so excited to hear that easyJet was planning to fly from my home county to the home of my Olympic gold win, Barcelona. The people of East London and Essex will love having more choice and a greater range of destinations to fly to. I’m sure that easyJet services to Southend will also be popular for Europeans wanting to fly to London next year.
It was also great to meet the budding athletes from Eastwood School and hear the enthusiasm from the next generation hoping to succeed in sporting events in the future.” Catherine Lynn, easyJet’s Customer and Revenue Director, said: “This is an exciting time to be launching our routes from our newest UK base. The airport is in a fantastic location just outside London with a fast rail link into the city. Through offering easy and affordable travel, we expect the new routes to appeal to customers in Essex and London looking for a convenient new departure point for many top European destinations. We also believe that the European city links, such as Amsterdam, Belfast and Barcelona, will also attract a high number of inbound business and leisure passengers to London next summer.” London Southend Airport managing director, Alastair Welch, said: “The announcement of the routes really brings to life the exciting development of London Southend Airport.
EasyJet passengers will experience the state-of-the-art terminal and easy access to the dedicated railway station. With up to eight train services an hour to Stratford and to London Liverpool Street, this is an exciting prospect for both people wanting to visit London and those travelling to the region on holiday or business next year.”
