Don´t switch off

Women’s football

THERE´S still plenty to play for in Spain’s Ladies Primera football league with two regular games remaining.

Egatesa Granadilla Tenerife want to end with a flourish before their big play-off weekend finals in Madrid, while Tacuense are clinging to the faint hope of avoiding relegation.

Tenerife lost 3-0 at Atletico Madrid last weekend, and coach Toni Ayala will be looking for a positive reaction when they host Levante on Sunday at noon in El Medano.

The team’s form has tailed off lately, and they will need to be at their best to repel fourth-placed Levante.

Atletico picked them off with two goals from Sonia and a Manayo strike in between.

Tenerife are sixth in the league, thanks to a season of flowing football and plentiful goals. They have dried up in recent games, but the last match in front of their 600-plus home crowd should see them raise their game.

Tacuense achieved a 0-0 home draw against Espanyol last week in La Laguna, which was a welcome point. But they need at least one win from their last two games to have a chance of keeping their top-flight status.
